Shadow: Dragons of Egypt

Even in the evolution of time the intercepting sun casts shadow upon the land. Darkness does not go away. The light of change is upon us in the wake of the Shadow Dragons of Egypt.
Alexandria, Egypt; Before the dawn of mankind, RA, his Light Dragon Sohlahryan and the Dragon Phyriad close their eyes of day into the twilight of night. Deep within the Earth darkness stirs within itself. The scent of sand, brimstone, fire and clove fill the void with iniquitous perfume. The mercurial essence of darkness bides its time with darker thoughts. The Dragon Aphophis stirs from the void the Nile Goddess, Syren, has brought upon him with her song. Not alone, another dark thought stirs from the immobilized Mnemythe, the one RA roared into the depths below. Their thoughts are separate until their similar ideas merge together causing friction like lighting back and forth upon two electric clouds breaking through the sand and water that keeps them confined in the Earth. Together their thoughts become one and break free of the congealed hold into a cavernous dwelling below them.
Descending from the sand, Mnemythe and Aphophis fell through to the hollow cave without light. Sensing each others presence, their voices began to stir the stillness of the cavern, “We cannot return to the day above.” And a reply, “No we cannot. But where there is light there is shadow. Our dark KA can bide for us where we cannot.”
Suddenly, from Mnemythe emerged his shadow KA Akhnouphis and from Aphophis emerged his serpent shadow Dragon Urphaeus. “Take to the land above Shadow Dragons and bring us the light of RA so that we may leave this Underworld and bring darkness in replacement of his might Sun-Disk.”
The following day RA rose from his barge of light. “What bothers you Lord?” Phyriad asked as the sun rose from Red Egypt and made it Gold again. “The dawning of a new creation is at my fingertips. My dreams shall become real and anew shall bare this land.” Turning to his Light Dragon, Sohlahryan, “we must go to the West toward the water island of my daughters. I sense creation has woken from its soporific void.”
RA drew himself atop the back of the Light Dragon. “Phyriad remain here and watch over the sleeping baby Llorhn while I go to my daughters. My plans for Syren and Saphyrium grow near.” The eye of RA seemed changed for a moment and then he readjusted with much intensity, “I will return soon Phyriad but I will not leave you alone. I shall keep with you a protector of RA.” Within the eye of RA a simple thought occurred and within that thought, a spirit began to form from thin air, a female Dragon the colour of crimson emerged from the id. “I will call you Khypherah and you shall protect all of RA’s Egypt.”
The Shadow Dragons Akhnouphis and Urphaeus rose through the sand as spectral to the day. Above the Underworld, they sensed having only shadows to move in was not enough to fight the Sun-Disk. So they made their way to the hidden chamber of the Witch Dragon Nomastikha. She would have the power to give the two fiends substance in order to acquire and dim the light of the mighty RA.
In the cave of moss and damp molding darkness the two Shadow Dragons stood before the divining Dragon Nomastikha. “And what in return should I ask of you? My price is very high.” She the commanded in her sacred voice, “Bring me the hearts of the three that vanquished me here and I will not only bring you the solidity to aid in your bidding but I will give your true Dragon bodies trapped below this wretched land evolution unheard of throughout all time. Your masters shall reign again. But my price, if the hearts are not given to me in the time of six full moons, is the control of your spectral shadows for all of eternity.” The two accepted this dark oath. Peering into her cauldron of red flame she draws forth a deep breath and exhaled into the red fire until it changed to a blue flame. “Even the light of the Sun-God RA cannot protect the things that fall under a harbouring sky.”
Not understanding the spell, but unable to forgo the promise of this powerful transcendence, the Shadow Dragons began to change into solid form. Urphaeus’ dragon apparition suddenly morphed into a limbless scaly snake, while Akhnouphis painfully materialized into a black canidae with four legs and a tail.
Sometimes evolution calls for change and sometimes advancing evolution comes with a price.
Nomastikha clearly understood this as she skillfully manipulated these creatures into new beings. She knew that mere shadows never stood a chance of reaching Alexandria or the water island. Even if they could, they were no match for the Day Dragons of RA. “Never let the Day Dragons see your true dark selves. Keep your shadow out of the site of the sun. Now go jackal and sand serpent. Go now, while the Faience moon waits for night to fall.”
Aphophis and Mnemythe sat idle in the cavern they called the Underworld. Only the faint luminescence of their eyes caught any light from the fires within. The threat of change to the land of Egypt stirred in their thoughts. What was it RA had plans for the land? What energy did they have left together to aid their newly transformed henchman above?
“We must keep RA distracted, allowing our Shadow Dragons to fulfill their destiny. Yes, we must set forth our brother Pseker, to take from the Sun-Disk that which makes him happy.” “Are you sure brother? Set free our darkest brother of black light?” “Yes,” Aphophis sneered, “Pseker must destroy Llorhn.”
RA and the Light Dragon Sohlahryan reached the water island off of the coast. It was an island where nothing but beauty and bounty existed. Lush green forests and mountains that reach the sky with waterfalls that flow endless diamonds and sapphires. It was home to RA’s first children, his three daughters; Nefer-ka-RA the Dragon of Flight, Sekh-ba-RA the Lionesse Dragon of Influence and Power and Bast-um-RA the Feline Dragon of Stealth and Love.
Arriving to the island the three sisters emerged from their caverns under the fall of jewel filled water. They looked up to the Light Dragon carrying their Father.
“Is it time already?” Nefer-ka-RA asks. “Just as I was getting accustomed to this body now it seems it time to change yet again Father?” said Bast-um-RA lifting her Dragon paw and licking the diamond and sapphire water from it. “And what form shall we take this time?” The brooding Sekh-ba-RA asked next.
“I will ask you if you prefer to keep this form or continue my evolution the way the dreams in my mind stir of my land and what will fill it. Evolve with your Lord but be swift with an answer.” RA spoke looking deeply into the water they all stood upon, his gaze averted from the others. “What is it Father?” Bast-um-RA asked moving to the right side of him.
“Oh my child something stirs within my land. An ominous sense even I do not understand. Could it be I awake from my dreams in the wrong land? Could it be even I do not find happiness in my own light? What if I am wrong my children? What if my dreams are not evolution, but instead something worse?” The Sun-Disks light toned down a little from these thoughts.
Without hesitation, Sekh-ba-RA walked over to RAs left side. She was always the hardened strength of the three sisters. “Is there something Father wishes me to do?” She asked.
“For now, my children, I only ask that you give me an answer. Only your forms will change never the within. Your destiny lies upon your answer. You will be hidden in these new forms from the storm soon to thrive upon the land of my Egypt.
From behind Nefer-ka-RA, the eldest, laid her hands on the shoulders of the Sun God. “We will do as Father asks. Evolve us with what must be. When you are ready Father our island of Atlantis will evolve at your will.”
Evolution should never be forced. It should want to evolve at its own free will. Even if you see things differently, even if you know it is not quick enough. Being forced upon will only harbour disconnection.
In the depths of the Underworld; “Our brother Pseker is in flight. Soon we shall shun the light with the darkness of mourning.”
Alexandria, Egypt; The Black Lightning Dragon Pseker took to the skies in search of the child Dragon Llorhn. At the speed of a thunderous clap Pseker found himself nearing the barge that protected the baby in the place they call home. “Sun-God come forth from your hiding and face the Lightning Dragon.” Pseker roared.
From the barge Phyriad and Khypherah quickly emerged in stance.
Pseker roared once more “You are not the one I seek. Bring me the child so that we can continue back to our darkness before your light barge destroyed our home.”
“You will not have him unknown Dragon. We are his protectors. You must come through us before you can get to him.” Khypherah, the Protection Dragon ensued in wicked contempt.
“I will do better than that. I will tear a hole through your hearts and take half into my soul for a meal. As you lay heartless,” He said flapping his blue wings steadfast, “I shall change you to my Shadow Dragons and make you bathe in my existence.”
Pseker was the darkest, cruelest and uncontrollable of the three dark Dragon brothers. He had a black heart full of black Lightning and nothing but hate and mistrust ruled his every scale.
The Lightning Dragon looked to the sky and gathered thunder clouds to do his bidding. Dark formations crashed into each other passing electricity back and forth from cloud to cloud into a display of black energy until the charge was right. “Move aside or become a Shadow in my midst.” Pseker warned one last time. Neither Dragon moved and stood their ground without haste.
From across the sea RA rode the Light of Sohlahryan back to Alexandria. As he crossed over Memphis, the two lovers Syren and Saphyrium looked up from their work of RAs new Kingdom. With urgency in the passing of the Light Dragons wings, an energy shift began to form ahead of a darkening sky and he had no other thought but to pass over the lovers without as much as a greeting. Their work was important to the evolution of Egypt.
A quickening shifted for a few moments and the miasmic sound of silence voided until the rip of white lightning flashed above Alexandria not once but three times.
By the time Sohlahryan arrived with the Sun-God it was too late. Phyriad and Khypherah lay dying on the barge both holding the dead child close to them. The Lightning Dragon drew himself into the sky and became lost within the energy that continued to traverse within the clouds.
RAs voice rose from the depths of unbridled worlds and a cry rang out all over Egypt.
Mourning has to take place. Darkness comes when we are caught off guard to the depths of death. Not withstanding our light diminishes because we must not let go but we must face mortality when it graces to remind us. We must partake in its empathy and remember what we never thought we’d have to remember because that is all that is left of what has passed.
Rain came for days. However, this did not prevent Urphaeus and Akhnouphis from drawing closer to the water island in search of the three. They surreptitiously guarded their former shadow shelves as they moved throughout the land, adhering to Nomastikha’s guidance. Satisfying their masters’ lust for infinite darkness would soon be in reach.
And in Memphis, Syren and Saphyrium mourned the death of their child. The dawning of mankind, the coming of the clouds, and the land in chaos.
RA went to the side of the mourning lovers. “To absolve this tragedy we must learn from it and evolve. We must rearrange our lives once again.” He said and then asked, “Do you take this response over reaction? For it is the only way to trust the way back to the light.” Through a veil of tears Syren voiced a yes. And with his eyes on his forever love, Saphyrium voiced his agreement.
“You shall become man and woman. In any form that love shall embrace, all that comes from you shall be born to love one another. And my people shall fill this land. I’ve had quite enough of darkness.” RA said.
With that said the sadness changed to the energy of the Sun-God and the rain parted and the light came again.
Everything evolves. Everything is eventual.
RA left the two to bring life to his new Kingdom called Memphis. He left to find the one called Pseker. Unresolved anger drew the sun to become brighter and stronger. The desert below became more acrid and more heated by his anger. Egypt began to burn gold sand and from it the temperature of Egypt began to change.
Let not the light of our sun fade forever from this Golden land of Egypt.
