I have walked these cold streets many times. I have tread upon the same paths leading up Nob Hill and down into the city. The scent of salt, rain and fog remind me of the day. I walk these streets at night when tourist and native go to their happy homes and the city surrenders its true nature of darkness and longing. Passing the Columbarium of Grace Cathedral I hear the sounds of lost souls trapped under the fissure of past and pain. So many voices tell the tales of being buried and removed of the earth over and over again, further and further out of the city. What soul deserves this degree of disrespect? Alas this city is the home of movement underground, where the waves crash and the city has no soul just as it has no real ground underneath. It is an island floating on the wind of the bay and the breath of ghosts. A city to dream upon and dissect upon the self by simply being a part of it. This city belongs to no one except the dead and the living that are only but temporary in the truth of all things.
