The preparation for the Ancient Egyptian afterlife was to build a tomb for the things necessary in the next evolution to come. Gold, Silver, Perfumes, Shabti's, all things to take with them into the next realm, would surround the sarcophagus and the tomb would be hidden from the world with wood, gold and linen bandages.
The riches were things that attracted the Tomb Robbers. Secretly learning where the wealthy slept underground, the robbers would find the tombs and pillage them of all their possessions thus leaving the royalty a demise of never reaching the next realm.
Entrance passages to the tombs were hidden by huge pillar shafts to prevent robbing and rubble was created to let the natural sand blow upon it and hide the tomb. Nothing is sacred to the tomb robber when looking for riches.
The Ancient Egyptians did not take this kindly. Although the death penalty was not common, tomb robbing was of the highest degree a break in the santuary of the dead and therefore removal of hands, nose and ears was very common as an efficient practice for all tomb robbers that took notice.
For a death sentence an impalement or being burnt alive was the tribulation of the robbers' afterlife. To have the body burned would mean there would be no natural body to pass into the afterlife as blessed and to be impaled meant the KA would forever be impaled on a stake and never to be able to leave the body of the deceased.
What comes of taking from others that is not what is yours? What darkened soul understands no remorse in anothers belief? Look around you - the tomb robbers of religion, gender, sexuality, of race and of life exist. To be a tomb robber - is to open the sacred and take from it that which was never yours. The sum of all things depends on that which you have to give and that which is given to you. The end of a darkened soul never reaches the evolution of the next realm.
