The capital of Scotland is full of stories, dark stories and never spoken of. The stories are recessed deep into the subterranean vaults beneath the city.
The capital has a hidden underworld with secret tunnels beneath. It is said when the tunnels were first discovered several hundred years ago that a piper was sent down to map the area. He remained in contact with the ones above by playing his pipe as they mapped the tunnels until there was no more contact, no more music. Upon going within the tunnels to find him they noted the tunnels stopped and nothing was ever found of the piper, he had completely vanished. It is said the ghost of the phantom piper walks under the royal mile and sometimes you can hear his pipe music playing like a hollowed sound lifting through places where above and below intersect.
The tunnels initially were dug under the Ediburgh Castle as escape routes during war, which is part of many more ghost stories of the ones that died in the dungeons and crossed under rather than over. The Castle itself is known as not only the most haunted place in Scotland, but the most haunted spot in Europe.
