As I trecked across the Hungarian snow, the cold stricken ground reached around my feet and into my body until I could stand no more. I had gone out to search for the elixir to cure the blood curse for my dear dying wife. She had come across a bat and it had bitten her in the summer before the frost and we had all but taken out the bats saliva in her blood with transfusion after transfusion until finally the snow came and she became weaker and weaker and I had no choice.
As I lay here in this Hungarian snow I wonder if my paths were chosen for me. If the way to all things has led me here to die in the cold crystals around me. And would my wife meet me on the other side as the warmth of my body flows freely away from me.
Do we seek something more or do we accept what we have been given?
I reached within me and woke myself up. I made myself stand and I pushed myself through this cold and sodden misery.
As I reached the door my hands were in too much pain to knock. I pushed my body against the wood and slumped down to the floor leaning against the door.
Then as my eyes closed and my breath slowed you brought your warm inviting wine to my lips.
